Some diseases that are caused by viruses can’t be cured with antibiotics. The only way to control them is by immunisation.

Thanks to immunisation, some diseases are no longer a serious threat. This is because immunisations prevent severe illness and protect you from preventable diseases. Once we’ve been immunised, our bodies are better able to fight these diseases if we come into contact with them.

You should have had some vaccinations as a baby, and again as a teenager. If you have missed any of these, you can still have them by contacting your GP practice.
