World Hand Hygiene Day

Logo for World Hand Hygiene dayWorld Hand Hygiene Day (Tuesday 5 May) is a reminder of how important clean hands are for keeping ourselves and others healthy.

Washing hands properly helps to stop germ from spreading at school, at home and in the community. This is especially important for children and young people, and for families who may be supporting someone who is unwell, very young, or more vulnerable to infections.

Hands should be washed with soap and water at key times, such as before eating, after using the toilet, after coughing or sneezing, and when coming home from playing out. When soap and water are not available, hand sanitiser can help. By making hand hygiene part of everyday routines, we can all help protect our own health and the health of those around us.

All Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust’s clinical staff have been trained in infection prevention and hand hygiene. And did you know that our School Nursing team delivers hand hygiene health promotion sessions to children in Reception and Year 1 at school? Enquire with your school to see if they have participated this year- if not they can call us and book in.
