We've been working with local schools to make it easier for families to access health services. Our healthy futures in-school events have brought services and care teams together in one place to offer advice and support from healthcare professionals, health checks and vaccinations.

Our healthy futures in-school events have brought services and care teams together in one place to offer advice and support from healthcare professionals, health checks and vaccinations. We hope you had chance to meet with the services you needed.  We have outlined the services each team was offering at the Healthy Futures event and give you links for further information on the full range of support each can offer.

Oral Health Improvement team

Information, advice and toothbrushing demonstrations as well as signposting to local dental practices for treatment, advice, support.

Speech and Language Therapy

Information, advice, and strategies to support children with speech, language, and communication needs.

Health Visiting team

Baby weighing clinic and developmental reviews for children, plus find out how our Health Visiting team can support your family

School Nursing team

A drop in clinic offering high school students the chance to ask a school nurse anything about physical, mental, sexual or emotional health, plus smoking/vaping, bullying, self-harm, healthy eating, healthy lifestyles and much more. Also offering audiology screening for children and school readiness sessions for parents of children getting ready to start school.

Chat Health

Find out about our Chat Health service – allowing you to text a member of our health visiting, school nursing or community infant feeding teams for confidential, free, trustworthy NHS advice and support. We have three Chat Health lines:

Public Health Screening Team

Height and weight checks for primary school pupils.

School Nursing Special Needs
Preparing children and young people with SEND to have a vaccination or hearing test and carrying those out whilst at the Healthy Futures event.

Specialist SEND Nurses

Meeting parents of SEND children to explain the support offered and to give advice, including sleep support.

Youth Justice Nurses 

The nurses present ‘behind the blade’ giving information about knife injuries and teaching hands-on resuscitation techniques with ‘resus Annie’, as well as explaining about the work they do.

Immunisation and vaccinations team

Offering any vaccinations that your child might have missed, such as MMR (measles, mumps and ruebella) or HPV (human papillomavirus).

MECSH and Infant to School
The maternal early childhood sustained home visiting programme and its sister programme Infant to School are voluntary programmes offering additional regular visits from the health visiting team for families who might need a little extra support.

Family Support Workers

Support for high school pupils to transition to adult health care services and motor co-ordination testing for primary school children.

Young Dynamos – youth opinion and advisory group

Offering students the opportunity to get involved and have your voice heard on young people’s NHS services and care. This provides valuable experience for your future career and offers a positive social space where strong friendships can be built.
